Immersion cooling: the battery of the future
The battery cells are submerged completely in a non-conductive, non-flammable fluid, for markedly higher safety and longer lifetime.

The technology
Cooling at the cell, not from the outside
Immersion cooling is an advanced cooling technology where the battery cells in a BESS installation are submerged completely in a non-conductive, non-flammable dielectric fluid. Instead of cooling from the outside, the cells are cooled directly, which gives markedly better heat dissipation and even temperature control.
By isolating the cells from air and carrying the heat away efficiently, the risk of thermal runaway is reduced considerably. At the same time the cells age more evenly, and the need for active cooling and maintenance falls.

Benefits
Six reasons to choose immersion
Full immersion cooling solves safety, lifetime and economy in one move.
Contact usFire risk removed
The cells operate fully submerged in insulating coolant, which prevents thermal runaway.
Even cell temperature
ΔT ≤ 2 °C between the cells removes imbalance across the system.
Higher energy density
More capacity in less space lowers the capital cost.
Less power for cooling
Highly efficient cooling cuts the auxiliary power consumption.
Longer lifetime
+30 % against air-cooled and +13.6 % against cold plate cooled batteries.
Triple thermal defence
Dielectric fluid, inert gas and water deluge keep the temperature below 80 °C.
How it works
The fluid surrounds every single cell
Cold dielectric fluid enters at the bottom of the cabinet, rises through the gaps and surrounds every cell in all five battery packs. The fluid absorbs the heat on its way and leaves the cabinet at the top as warm return.
The technology is particularly well suited to:
- Stand-alone BESS installations and grid and balancing services
- Projects in areas with high temperatures
- Installations with strict safety and reliability requirements
- Energy efficient cooling of data centres with low PUE
- Cold supply
- Warm return
- Dielectric fluid
